If you are heading to Disneyland in May, you may be wondering what you can look forward to. We are sharing everything you can look forward to at Disneyland Resort in May, from special events, to parades and shows, and even talking about expected crowd levels.
Disneyland in May 2020
May 2020…. what is happening at Disneyland? Well, at this nothing. Disneyland resort is currently not open. The 2020 health crisis has resulted in a closure of Disneyland Resort. BUT, could it reopen soon?
The Disneyland Resort closed mid-March 2020 due to the global health pandemic. Originally the closure was announced for 2 weeks, but at the end of March was updated to be closed “until further notice.” At this time, the Disneyland Resort is not accepting reservations until June 1, 2020.
However, at the time of publishing this article, the Disneyland App is showing that guests may purchase one day tickets to use beginning May 17, 2020. Does this mean there is a chance that Disneyland Resort may open in May? We don’t know… But you can follow my Facebook page as that will be the first place I post when an opening date is announced.
May in Disneyland – Spring turns to Summer
Normally, Disneyland in May shows the wrapping up of spring breaks, Grad nights (which are cancelled for 2020), and the kick off of summer. However, as we continue through the health crisis, Disneyland has made no announcements during this time for any summer celebrations.
May 31, 2020, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will turn one year old (from the Grand Opening). I imagine that if the parks open by this anniversary (which I feel is unlikely, but you never know) we may see an unofficial gathering from the Star Wars Fandom.
Guests who had reservations in May are seeing cancellation emails coming day by day. At the time of this publishing, most reservations before May 20, 2020 have been cancelled.
Need to re-book your May Trip? Here is when we suggest going!
If you had a vacation booked during May at Disneyland, and are now hoping to rebook, here is what you need to know.
If you booked through Get Away Today, you are taken care of!
If you booked your vacation via Get Away Today, know that they are taking care of their customers and being proactive. If your vacation has been affected by the closure, they will automatically issue you a credit to your account so that you can reschedule your vacation.
Not able to reschedule, and need money back? Contact them via phone, or preferably Facebook message to reach someone.
Why should you reschedule your Disneyland vacation instead of cancel?
One reason you should reschedule your vacation instead of cancelling is that your tickets (with newly extended expiration dates) have locked in prices. This is especially true for those who locked in the prices before the February price increase (on both tickets and MaxPass prices).
Another reason to reschedule is that Get Away Today has locked in many deals for those rescheduling their vacations instead of cancelling. Disneyland hotels are offering a comeback offer, and Get Away Today has worked with other area hotels to provide special rates to their guests.
When to visit Disneyland Resort
When you reschedule your vacation, you may be wondering when you should book your vacation for. At this time, Disneyland Resort is accepting reservations beginning June 1, 2020.
With that in mind, I definitely suggest planning for a late summer, fall, or holiday visit to Disneyland to hopefully have the parks fully open. I have a feeling we will see a phased opening, or “soft opening” of the parks at first.
Halloween Time At Disneyland
Halloween is a great time to visit Disneyland. In fact it is one of my family’s favorite times to visit. From ride overlays, to specialty food items, and of course, Oogie Boogie Bash, there is a lot to do at Disneyland at Halloween Time.
Halloween at Disneyland runs around the second week of September through October 31, 2020.
Holidays at Disneyland
The holidays at Disneyland are super magical. I love heading to Disneyland during this time as it always gets me in the Holiday spirit. The parks go all out for the holidays, decorating almost every land, holding the Festival of Holidays, parades, special fireworks and more.
The holidays at Disneyland begin around the second week in November and continue through the first week of January.
